Booting to a CD on a computer or laptop is very useful especially no most installation disks are CD based, but older computers, with older bios options, may not support this

You can try to flash your bios to a new one.
[edit] With floppy
One solution is to make a floppy disk boot disk. This only if your computer can have a floppy and a cd at the same time (some old laptops won't)
- Smart Boot Manager
- Smart Boot Manager (bis)
- smbinst.exe on Windows
[edit] If no floppy or new bios
- Smart Boot Manager from floppy, then install it on hard disk, then put in the Cd and reboot from hard disk, select boot from cd from SBM
